Booked for Flu Shots
It's all settled. We'll be heading out en masse to our local clinic on Thursday the 18th
This should work out pretty good. Derek will have just taken the PSAT the day before and still be slightly comatose...he won't feel a thing. And if we have him go first the other kids should notice little or no reaction and it'll be a breeze.
Ok out there....LET'S GO GET YOUR FLU SHOTS, PEOPLE!
Don't make me come after each of you individually.
If you want to be around my immune-suppressed husband or my family, you might want to give this serious consideration.
Don't be a baby, fer cryin' out loud.
See? The cheeseburger is getting a shot and you don't hear HIM whining...
And don't give me any of that baloney about flu shots causing the flu...
URBAN MYTH. It's a killed vaccine.
So you have a sore arm for a day. BIG DEAL. It beats being one of the 36,000 people that die from the flu every year. And no, it's not just old people or tiny babies. Some extremely healthy looking folks have been knocked off. You just can't tell how it will effect you.
There's even a nasal spray vaccine but I don't necessarily recommend that since it's a live vaccine. Pregnant women can't have it and because of Loren, none of our family is supposed to have that form.
Some day in the future Ma will hand down her list for preventing illness during the winter months, but for now...
...MAKE A FLU SHOT APPOINTMENT, already. (yeah...that goes for college kids and grads, too)

Soo... what I still don't understand is why if I get a flu shot I should be overly concerned that others would get theirs as well, because I'm protected, right? I'm thinking that my employer provides mine for free if I want it... never gotten one before, but Josh claims he hasn't had the flu for a long time...
Heh, excuse the run-on sentence with bad grammar. :-)
I am reminded of when I went to high school and a fellow student died from the flu. Every once in a while it just reaches out and grabs some unsuspecting person.
If you get the shot you are protected more than if you do not.
And it takes a while for the immunity to build up, so in the first thirty days you are not as protected as you will be.
But getting the flu shot doesn't guarantee that you won't get flu. You might get it and just have a milder case.
The more people that get the shot, the less the virus will be spread around in general.
And we were told that ALL of Loren's family have to get the shot. That's why I "encourage" the ones not currently living at home to do so :-)
But mostly, I was just taking advantage of one of the few opportunities I'll ever have to preach :-D
