Let's see, now ... What does an incoming LETU student need?
I assume he already has every LOTR extended edition. And, of course, a TI-89 or -92. He should probably have several Mel Gibson and Tom Clancy movies on DVD, come to think of it. 'The Matrix' is optional but recommended.
He needs lots of ramen and instant macaroni (naturally!). He should also have at least one book of sage advice from James Dobson, Chuck Colson, or Rick Warren, which he will never open again but which will serve as a touching reminder of his life at home. He will also not need that easy-to-read Bible paraphrase much (the NLT is good), but every freshman should come to school with one in order to be disabused of it properly in his first Bible class.
I'm sure other alumni have other helpful suggestions.
Well now, the oldest three have received the gift pack of BOOKS from LOTR. Any audio-visual versions will be at their own expense. Of course they are welcome to watch the home extended version on selected holidays....at home.
As for the Matrix, I was THIS CLOSE to buying a VHS version at Goodwill, but I didn't. What he watches at school will be up to him....I can always to a Vulcan mind-sweep when he comes home on break.
I'm afraid Jason hasn't read much of Dobson, Colson or Warren....the last of which I confess I haven't heard of. (I'll probably hear about that)
I readily admit to not being on the "gotta read this Christian author" bandwagon :-)
He will certainly have to shell out for a TI calculator, though. But I think I've provided everything else, including finger and toenail clippers.
However, I will happily entertain other suggestions :-D
