National Chemistry Week!

It is.

I visited the American Chemical Society's web page and folks...did you know they have a mission for National Chemistry Week?

The mission of National Chemistry Week is to reach the public, particularly elementary and secondary school children, with positive messages about chemistry to:

* Make a positive change in the public's impression of chemistry; (emphasis mine :-)
* Promote a mechanism for effectively mobilizing ACS local sections; and
* Motivate the ACS membership through local section activities.

This year's theme:

"The Many Faces of Chemistry."

Particularly appropo if one's been doing experiments of an explosive nature. (ha ha, Ma is just kidding :-)

And just so's you can prepare for the next two years, here's a "heads up" on future themes:

October 19 – 25, 2008
Theme: “Having a Ball with Chemistry”
(The Chemistry of Sports)
October 18 – 24, 2009
Theme: “Chemistry—It’s Elemental!”

Be sure and mark it on your calendars....now.
