The New Way

Ma's new way involves the old method of photographing papers and then posting the picture, as opposed to actual scanning. (it's just easier for me) But someday I'll get around to scanning old family photos. The potential income from blackmailing looks to be more of a sure thing than Social Security.

Anyways, here is that problem of Carolyn's:
I'm told that the '2' in Step 2 stands for the 2/7 leftover. The final answer would be that 1050 = 'x'.

Likewise, in the bottom problem 'M' = 4

Again, I'm not saying this is different than normal procedures, just different than what Saxon Math puts forth in 1/2 Algebra. Carolyn claims she got done with her math much faster doing it "her way."

Of course, I could check this out for myself, but that would mean looking over her math book, rereading material and quite possibly bringing on a migraine. None of us wants that.


And in keeping with the 'new' theme, Carolyn devised a alternate way to play 'Settlers of Catan' which involves people having their own cute, little islands, plus a few new rules. "It's alright, Mommy, because everyone agreed to it!"
It all sounds very libertarian to me...
