As the Electron Turns
I did something today I haven't done in a long, long time.
Went grocery shopping on a Saturday morning.
Yes folks, pretty exciting stuff! But that's not all.
Two boys had their hair cut, and the clippers only threatened to quit 4 or 5 times; another real gift to Ma. I must say though, my guys look pretty sharp. Especially when one considers that their haircuts are totally free.
Next time I will definitely perform the honors without socks. Socks are basically hair magnets, and I figure that if enough people wore socks without shoes while cutting hair, we'd probably throw the earth into another orbit. Not only that, but if these same people cut hair with socks on and shoes off, AND all jumped up and down at the same time, we could very likely visit Mars without having to bother making a special spaceship or anything.
Just something to think about.
(and you thought I wasn't scientifically-minded...)
Time for another Slipper Report: Wal*Mart STILL has not put "my" slippers on sale. I feel I've been fairly patient, waiting since pre-Christmas, checking and checking, with nary a nasty comment to clerk or manager. However, my old slippers have severe problems, in that they are hemorrhaging foam from their soles in a rather alarming fashion.
It's really not for myself that I want to acquire new slippers, but rather for the sake of offering rest and respite to a well-worn pair of fleece footwear that came from the Stuck-in-Rochester-post-transplant-2004 era.
Wal*Mart did contain a balm to my weary soul in the fact that it had discounted Dove's Dark Chocolates by one dollar per bag. The logical consequence of this savings led to buying more chocolate.
I like to think I'm helping to keep balance in the world.
Go ahead and consider Ma shallow. She doesn't care. It's all a ruse to keep people off the scent of my real activities, which may or may not include experiments in altering earth's gravitational force.

I have to believe that you have "slipped up" in the slipper department. I have a couple of suggestions for you and I'm surprised you haven't already thought of them yourself.
If you can save a dollar a bag on your favorite chocolate, then you just need to buy X-amount of bags to save enough dollars to cover those slippers you so desire. (The math here is so simple--I'm just amazed that you couldn't work it out on your own.) :D
Since that option may not work out anymore, you might try Plan B. They say that in this tenuous economy many retailers would be happy to make a sale at your price. Talk to the Wal-Mart manager and make a deal. You are a frequent customer, so surely he would see the wisdom of the deal. (Don't forget to mention the ten little ones and the out-of-work husband at home: the manager doesn't need to know the details--like some of the little ones aren't so little...or even at home...anymore, or that your husband has retired.
No thanks is necessary. Like you, I am very humble. Besides you're family!
Wow :-D
Excellent advice!
I can't decide which to do first, buy more chocolate to "save" up for the slippers, or talk to the manager...
