Church Woes

No, no, nothing is wrong, but, attending church can be hazardous to your health.

Trevor woke up this morning with a runny nose and cough. (Sun to Tues, the classic amount of time for a bug to take hold) Actually, first Trevor woke up Jason around 1 and was promptly tucked back into bed. Then he wandered over to our room just after 4 and so I took him back to his bed. Then he woke Jason up a-GAIN, but it was almost time to get up so Jason let him snuggle up beside him in the top bunk. How many 16 year old guys would put up with that? Trevor is very attached to his "bro." Makes it handy for me. :-) But I guess we know who the next one will be to get sick. Let's see, 10 people in the house, one cold virus, I'd say, oh, about 14-18 days. :-(

This is a prime example of why Loren, and possibly ALL of us, will not be attending church for MONTHS following his transplant. And we may not be able to have people into the house for some time either. (Oh, I forgot, we hardly ever do NOW) Well, we'll traverse that gantry when we stumble upon it.

Loren endured a dental cleaning with his usual stoicism. I took advantage of this time to do some shopping and stock up on chocolate. Just in time too, for my vision was beginning to cloud over..... With a new 12 pack of diet cherry coke, (thank you, Barb and Terry) and my chocolate reinforcements, I feel sufficiently prepared to march bravely into the future.

Mommy, you're going to make everyone think you need chocolate and diet cherry coke to survive.

You mean you don't need chocolate and some form of caffeinated beverage to survive?

My personal preferences are Hershey bars and Dr. Pepper.

Well, no, I GUESS I don't need chocolate and diet coke to survive. Wait, I take that back. I simply have to stay awake with all the driving I do.

Hershey's is an excellent choice. I was happy with it for YEARS. Then Loren started eating a small amount of dk. chocolate (Dove's) each day, supposed to be good for your heart. Similar to the benefits of red wine, only without the enebriative qualities. You would have to eat a LOT of chocolate to alter your mental status, and you would get sick from the sugar long before you achieved a drunken stupor from chocolate. ANYWAY, I tried some once and was "hooked." But I could walk away from it any time, really.

As to Dr. Pepper, another good choice, though I find it a little sweet. I can drink MORE of Coke than Dr. Pepper. This way I can have quality (dk. chocolate) and quantity (Coke) at the same time :-) (well, it made sense to me before, but I may have been under the influence.....)

Ditch the soft drinks. Drink tea -- tastes better, good for you, and so much more versatile.

'Tastes better' is purely subjective.

Today's Word-a-Day offering made me think of you:

ananda (AH-nan-duh) noun

Pure bliss.

[From Sanskrit ananda (joy).]

Anandamide is the name given to a compound found in mammalian brains. It's the same compound that's found in chocolate. Now you know why chocolate gives you that feeling of bliss.
