Chocolate Rules
I received a lovely little bag in church yesterday, filled with delectable edibles. It came from our pastor's family, which means, not only do they pray for me, they also give me chocolate. Follows an itemized list:
- 1 six ounce bar of Hershey's Dark Chocolate
- 1 small package mini Hershey's Kisses
- 1 small package Raisinettes (sorry, but I had to give these to Loren. He likes them, and in my opinion, chocolate-covered raisins are an oxymoron. I think it goes back to being a little kid and my brothers telling me they were really chocolate covered ants. To my way of thinking, raisins are good for Cinnamon Bagels and Raisin Cream Pie, and that's about all.)
- 1 package York Swoops, which are basically chocolates shaped like potato chips
- 1 package Dove's Dark Chocolates :-) :-) (this was truly Providential, since I was practically out. When you are out of Dove's chocolates AND diet cherry Coke, it is a dark day, indeed)
- 1 small box of 8 fancy chocolates, which I gave to the kids, proving I am not completely void of noble gestures
- A spiral flip notepad entitled: 365 Reasons to Eat Chocolate
September 8th entry: "Gaining knowledge is an important part of living. So, no matter where you are, try a new kind of chocolate."
Now, let's all go out there and make it an educational day.

I mostly understand the chocolate thing... though I can't really see why you wouldn't eat chocolate-covered ants. I mean, how can you go wrong with protein and chocolate?
Here's the other problem: what's the point of Diet Cherry Coke? It's like real Cherry Coke, but it tastes funny and has no sugar in it. It's like non-alcoholic beer in that the best elements of real taste and real substance are gone (at least, that's my theory, because I'm a good LU Student and would never drink.)
Ma Hoyt, you need to come visit LU so that we can properly expose you to some of the finer things in life. Just think: Joe's real New York Italian pizza, Bodacious BBQ, and the unique lunch menu of Inter Chuzzy. We'll keep a room or three open for you and the clan should you choose to come en masse.
Thank you for your kind thoughts, O Cynical one. I would LOVE to come and visit, but probably won't make it until Ardith's graduation, assuming she doesn't flunk out, or get swept off her feet by a circus performer. ("allô, ma chère" :-)
As to the diet coke "thing," it's like this: I started drinking caffeine when I was compelled to drive long distances to hospitals and clinics and such. I figured the least I could do, figure-wise, would be to imbibe the non-caloric kind. Also, it really hits the spot after an hour or two of pushing a mower. Believe me, it tastes a little weird at first, but if you drink enough of it, you don't notice it anymore. In fact, if you drink e-NOUGH of it, there are a LOT of things you don't notice anymore. (though, sleeping can be a big problem)
Now, if I ever reach the point where I am not 10-15 pounds overwieght, I just may go in for the "real thing."
But how do we try a new chocolate every day if we don't have a variety of chocolates on hand to choose from?
That's where those multi-colored packs of M&M's come in handy.
