Out Ioway

My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of Heaven and earth,
He will not let your foot slip-
He who watches over you will not slumber.

Four Weeks Down, Eight More to Go

Every once in a while, something occurs, out of the blue, that just makes one glad to be alive.

Loren had finished a tough hour of rehab, and we were running a few errands in the bowels of the Mayo Clinic buildings. As we passed through Lips Atrium (the place where that guy played wonderfully on the piano) there were crowds of people assembled for a concert. We had one short errand, yet, but as the elevator doors opened, I recognized the strains of....... "Celtic music! Would I love to hear that!"

As we returned to the atrium, they were still playing, and against my husbands perceived wishes (I am slightly telepathic, concerning him) I wheeled him up to the last open space by a railing on the balcony. There was a program lying on the floor. "Boys of the Lough," it read. Ahhhhh. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. To actually hear a real concert, by real people, of real heritage. We were able to enjoy 30 minutes of the 50 minute concert. I don't know which was more enjoyable, the music, or the lilt of their accent.

I think Loren was a little nervous about being around so many people. A man somewhat close to him DID sneeze, but fortunately, he soon left. Besides, I figured we were on the fringes, and fairly safe.

For most of the time, I was positioned directly across (and one level up) from the man who played the mandolin and concertina. I miss my mandolin :-( That's ok. I figure I still have about 40 more years to learn to play. And some day, when all of this is over, and we can safely go out in crowds again, we are going to some concerts! Yesiree bob, we are going to some CONCERTS!

Loren is still bothered by his aching back. That compression fracture is just enough of a nag to make sleep hard, at times. But, he has gained another 1 1/2 pounds, and been taken off the last of the Lasix. So, that is good news. And, he didn't seem to suffer any adverse effects from that long IV infusion, yesterday. Tomorrow is another heart biopsy, and we are hoping and praying for a second ZERO rejection score.

I wonder what it is like to go through the day without thinking about appointments, and meds, and seeing nothing but sick or medical people all day long?

If all goes well, we should find out in about eight weeks. Then we'll only have to live in the medical world once a month, instead of every day.

Until then, I think I'll mosey on over to Half.com and check out their Irish Repetitive Music.
