Thanks to the local Lion's club, Nolan has a little walker to use. I'm not sure it is pediatric in size, but it seems smaller than normal.

We celebrated his liberation from the couch by having a picnic lunch outside, just Nolan, Trevor and I. The hope was that this unaccustomed festivity would take away some of the disappointment in missing Vacation Bible School. He seemed to take it fairly well, though, not a day goes by that he doesn't mention, "I wish I didn't have a broken leg."

I was able to acquire the walker while out shopping. Notable purchases include two videos from Goodwill: "Royal Wedding," with Fred Astaire and Jane Powell, and "Fievel Goes West," starring an engaging immigrant mouse.

Upon arriving home with the tapes and walker, (oh yes, and FOOD) I found Nolan was not in the least interested in trying out his new aid, as he was fast asleep on the couch. It seems a little goofing around had ensued in my absence, (with Trevor) involving chair-scooting, showing off, and whapping the injured leg against the wall. The results were renewed pain, tears and a "sleep off the trauma" session on the couch.

I don't know if this undid some of the healing, but, hopefully, the bones will have a chance to knit before cool weather and long pants. I'm sure he would like to ride his bike again (and I do mean HIS bike) before winter sets in.

As to baby Bethany, she has been eased off the respirator a tiny bit, which means she is breathing a tiny bit on her own. Everyone takes that as good news :-) But, now's not the time to "ease up" on the prayers. Many thanks to everyone who is uplifting her and her family to the Great Physician.
