As a wallcloud=rain.....so school=doom
*sigh* One can only put certain things off, for so long.
It is always the younger ones who are excited about starting school. It was for this reason that I taped a note to the wall this morning, "I will not be available for 'school' questions until after breakfast!" I know what it is like to be inundated with enthusiastic, chirpy children, who, as yet, are blissfully ignorant of how long Algebras 1 and 2 will take them to finish in a few more years.
Despite my lack of mental energy, I had thought I was prepared, material-wise for this first day of school. I was wrong.
Having purchased 6 packs of notebook dividers, I assumed we were in fine shape. I neglected to notice, however, that these packs did not contain ONE file with a blue tab. The older ones were heartbroken. Especially after most of the younger kids bounced out of bed and grabbed up all the other "good" colors. They were left with an odd assortment of pinks and yellows. Some were even forced to reuse OLD green tabs from last year, if you can imagine that.
Fortunately for Kendra, there was a red tab left for Anatomy. "Blood.....red, it just goes together, Mommy."
There's another reason I do not feel on top of things this morning, and it involves a cricket in the bedroom. Waiting for a moment when Loren and I were both sound asleep, it made itself known in the dead of night. It was soon apparent, that, not only was there a cricket chirping in the bedroom, but, he had a microphone, as well.
Keeping a flashlight handy for just such an occasion, I grabbed it, and then reached for my glasses, promptly knocking them to the floor, behind the bed. It didn't take long for them to fall, but it was apparently just enough time to accumulate a good amount of cobwebs and dust-bunnies on the way down. Plus, actually finding one's glasses, without wearing one's glasses is more than a little difficult. But, find them I did, as well as discovering the cricket was probably waayyyyy back underneath the bed.
Gathering my specs, flashlight, and no small amount of nerves, I proceeded to swim underneath the bed, against an angry tide of dust and shoes, in my search for the offending insect. I missed him, but did succeed in scaring him closer to Loren's side of the bed, accomplishing half my mission. (Loren will sleep through anything, these days)
I hate crickets. Crickets=lost sleep.
