M.O.C.K. Membership Nearly Doubles

Yes, it is that time of year again. Time for the Mothers Of College Kids to make themselves heard in the hallowed halls of collegiate learning. Or even at the universities, for that matter.

Before we get into the exciting news of new members, let us review the goals and purposes of this auspicious organization:

• To Encourage: by sending cheery rays of sunshine into the humdrum lives of various progeny et al., whether by cards, IM's, or little gifts of edibles. We also pray for people.
  
• To Comfort: by extending the metaphorical shoulder for young people to cry on, blubber over, and just vent out at, if the need arises. Oh SURE, getting away from home and being on your own is heady stuff. But the nasties of reality can hit at most inopportune moments. Never underestimate the power of nosey but well-meaning moms.
  
• To Cajole: Yes, this is one of the most important aspects of our MISSION STATEMENT. (did I forget to mention this is a mission statement?) We aim to be a beacon of wheedling praise, of tortuous teasing. We want to be FUN.
  

(I don't know if this corresponds to last year's initiation of the M.O.C.K., but it can't matter much, since I am just making this up as I go....)

Along with Thainamu and MoM from last year, I am pleased to announce two new members this year, Julie and Rhonda. Of course, I didn't exactly ask them if they wanted to join.....(what about it, ladies?)

There is another stealth candidate, but I want to check with her, first. Besides, there is some question as to her suitability, since she doesn't wear excessive amounts of eyeliner....

Now, what we need from the COLLEGE STUDENTS, is a little vital info, such as birth dates, box numbers and addresses and such. You can pass these on to certain reps at the schools who can IM one of us. Let me just say that NOT doing this will make it much harder, nay, impossible, to receive anything in the form of birthday cards or luscious edibles. But hey, it's up to you :-)

Remember, you can trust us because: We have been "up front," promising/threatening to be a little ornery right from the "get go." It's those people who pretend to be nice and have ulterior motives that you have to watch out for.... We have no disguised aims, other than to tease you a bit and ingratiate you to us for the rest of your lives :-)

In closing, it has come to the attention of M.O.C.K that the Cynic has posted a challenge to his readers. Far from opposing this contest, we welcome it. Especially since there seems to be some promise of a *cough* care package. And, we DO need suitable names for the two initiates.

Enough said. Let us all enter into the spirit of M.O.C.K.ery.
