(the following is an email my oldest brother (Doug) sent out after I retired to bed last night)

Brothers and sisters,

Friday afternoon between 5 and 6 pm dad was transferred to the skilled care unit at Greencroft. The hope was and is that he will receive rehab and be able to recover mentally and physically. However since arriving there he has only been sleeping and we have been unable to wake him. This could be a sign that his body is repairing itself, or it could be a sign that the end is near. Tonight I tend to think that it may be the latter.

We did have a small group gather round for anointing and to pray for healing, but also to release him into the Lord's will. This was not planned very far ahead, but just happened as Paul G., Dan M., and Willard S. were present as representatives of the larger church. Mom, Nancy, Cindy, and I were also there.

Our brother Solly went home last night, the last to of the out of town siblings. It was a blessing to have all the brothers and sisters together for a short time. Four of his grandchildren, Ardith, Didi, Gabe, and Josh were also able to spend a little time with him this week.

Your continued prayers for Dad and for our family will be very much appreciated. I know that many of you are very much wanting to show your love for and see Dad, but at this point he cannot recognize anyone, probably not even his immediate family, and our family does need space to process and perhaps to say goodbye. If things improve and Dad can receive visitors we will let you know. Thanks in advance for your gracious understanding. I know that is a hard time for many of you as well as for us.
