The Diet Report
This week's weigh-in: 1W5 pounds. That is a .5 pound loss for this week, bringing the total weight loss to 9.5 pounds over 6 weeks.
I'm pretty happy, since I figured this week was gonna be a complete bust. An alteration of schedule, plus.....how shall I say this......the "from time to time" hormonal attack that basically makes women feel like snarfing everything in sight, with enhanced vocalizations....
("STOP YELLING, you guys! You KNOW I can't stand yelling in this house!")
You just have to feel sorry for the menfolk, sometimes. But, in keeping with one's obligation toward self-control, I do try not to wallow needlessly in pity for others.
All this to say...losing a mere half pound was still a triumph.
Another bonus, my second Anonymous 4 CD arrived today!
And I will concur, "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "Shall We Gather at the River" do sound like the singing of angels.
And while this group is not perfect, they do achieve a kind of ethereal sound which is reminiscent of Renaissance music.
Or, they could be using a lot of reverb, I don't know :-)
The highest singer has the best voice, which can overshadow the others at times, but I like the CD.
One interesting side-light is that the group of four women often sing an introductory verse in shaped-note tones. (also referred to as sacred harp singing)
And this brings back memories, for when I was a little girl, the Mennonite church my family attended still utilized a hymnal with shaped notes. Not that many could sing from that system, but there they were on the page, a silent testimony to colonial history.
And speaking of history, I should really start school with Nolan....

When we first went to the Solomon Islands, there were Christians there who had been taught shaped-note singing by early missionaries around the turn of the century (turn of the 20th century, that is). These were people with no cars, shoes, electricity or running water (and not that many clothes either!) and they were asking us if we could please secure them some Stamps-Baxter song books from America!
I am continually amazed at the connections in life....
Of course, you have to be sorta old to have connections :-D
