There are undoubtedly a few more.

Yesterday was National Freedom Day, which I didn't know about. Very appropriate though, since Abraham Lincoln signed the 13th amendment outlawing slavery on this date (Feb. 1st) in 1865.

If I remember correctly, Lincoln was a Republican. (sorry, I just couldn't resist :-)

Of course EVERYONE knows today is Groundhog Day, and while ol' Punxsutawney Phil may not have seen his shadow out in Pennsylvania, out Ioway it was cold and bright, so I guess we have 6 more weeks of winter.

I don't care. No lazy rodent on the east coast is gonna control my weather.

As was mentioned last night, we survived another library trip.

Ma's goal this time is to read slightly more than last time, which was almost finishing one book and barely starting another.

Ma's picks for February and March?

American Gospel by Jon Meacham...I didn't finish this book the last time I had it, so I'm determined to this time around. I enjoyed reading Meacham's book on Roosevelt and Churchill and look forward to this one, both for its authorship and subject.

T.S. Eliot Collected Poems 1909-1962...everyone needs a link to thoughtful beauty.

How to Read a Novel by John Sutherland...it just looked interesting. Most of my library reading material comes from the New Non-fiction shelf.

And now, a new category, instituted in just the last 6 months or so: Ma's Radical Pick to Scare the Hubby Book...

Other Powers: the Age of Suffrage, Spiritualism, and the Scandalous Victoria Woodhull by Barbara Goldsmith...mostly want to read up on women's suffrage, but it sounds like this book will include a fascinating mix of important religious, social and political personalities.

Gotta love that history :-)
