Life at Prairie Bridges

Right from the start I saw a lot of turtles.


Now do you believe me?
This looks to be a hike practice session of the turtle football squad's quarterback and center.

Heard a noise, turned around and saw this chipmunk practically begging me to take his picture.


Two Coots. They were very skittish, hardly letting me get a clear view.
When entering the park I saw two other Coots and as I got closer they promptly ducked under the water. I kept waiting and waiting for them to come up. They never did though I turned round and round to cover all angles. They must have an amazing capacity to hold their breath, though we cannot rule out alien abduction.

If I had to pick a theme for this visit, it would have to be "Goose Brooders."
(hope her babies don't mind jumping off the high dive for their first swim)

You can never have too much nesting material.
Like I said...

...they were everywhere. Though not always noticeable at first.
This one's spot looked a little iffy. If the water rises any more she'll be in trouble...

...as we see the same area from a different angle, taken last fall.
Even with allowing for killed-off weeds and all, the water level in this location is at least a foot and a half higher in the previous picture. One of my favorite trails was still completely under water.

Another couple of weeks might bring cute fuzzy gosling pictures :-)
