Before covering the seeds, he carefully inserts sticks for the peas to vine around. He could do this later, but Melinda suggested he do it now to prevent root damage.
These special rods come from the stalks of giant ragweed I pulled up last summer.

The crabgrass conquered, Melinda now sets about the work of planting her kohlrabi.


There. It's all done :-) Including Derek's spinach and lettuce which he planted yesterday, performing the herculean task of spading, raking and seeding all in one day.

Plus a math test.

Gardens are tricky since they overlap with the end of school, but I refuse to take the advice of a certain person and give up on them.

At least for now.
