And so it goes
Dr. L. called yesterday afternoon and talked to Derek--Loren and I were both outside--and presented three options:
1) keep everything the same. Since Derek is on Coumadin he's protected even if he stays in a-fib continually
2) cardioversion
3) implant a pacemaker
We've talked about it and asked the good doc about a 4th: cardioversion with an increase in Sotalol to hopefully keep Derek out of a-fib.
Between emails and further calls it's been decided to go with the cardioversion next week and the doctor has agreed to increase the Sotalol. (who knows, maybe he'd intended to do that anyway) The disadvantage of a Sotalol increase is that it may slow Derek's heart rate down further, which is already in the 50's. There will be an initial period of adjustment but maybe he'll be able to tolerate that.
In the end though, we feel that with Derek's propensity to go into a-fib he will need a pacemaker sometime. We'll just see if we can put it off for a year or so. He may have more growing to do, anyway.
Now let's get on to lighter subjects :-) Today we'll be traveling to the libraries again...oops, that's not a lighter subject for me :-(
Ah well. Just have to tell myself, "I will get through this day...I will get through this day..."
Then we have to clean up a coupla rooms and get ready for all my girls to come home for Thanksgiving!
Women rule, OH YEAH!
(Relax. I only say stuff like that to torment Loren)
Speaking of women, a friend from church handed me this card at the Thanksgiving Dinner. I got one of the biggest chuckles when I opened it...

Truer words were never spoken :-)
And here are mots apropos she saw at an antique store:
:-D Hee hee (thanks, Laura :-)
Of course I want to be healthy. But I also want to enjoy myself a little,
so,
SUE me.

Motto to Live By
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, latte in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "Woo Hoo! What a ride!"
