Out Ioway

My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of Heaven and earth,
He will not let your foot slip-
He who watches over you will not slumber.

Ma's Newsy Nuggets

A little different this time in that while the article links are provided, the best part--the quote--is given.
____________

A NYC doorman has been suspended for halitosis. A note from his superiors stated:

"We can no longer tolerate the fact that you have severe breath odor while on duty."

____________

This competitive eating article was posted before Thanksgiving, but it's still applicable.

According to George Shea of the International Federation of Competitive Eating,

"Seeing these guys go at a 20 pound turkey is like poetry," he said. "It's like a dance."

____________

You've heard of the Jesus Action Figure selling off the shelves at Wal*Mart and Target?

If you push Jesus' buttons, he will say:

"Love others as much as you love yourself."

Huh. Methinks a slight misinterpretation could be at hand...but there's more :

The Rev. Amy Miracle is not troubled by it.

"God speaks to us in all sorts of places," said Miracle, a senior pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Des Moines. "Why not speak to us through an action-figure doll?"

It's hard to know which makes me shudder more...the actual doll or the quotes. Unfortunately, there are other options to choose from, like the Deluxe Jesus Action Figure

There is no action figure more deserving of a deluxe edition than the Son of God. This 5-1/4" tall, hard vinyl figure comes with eight amazing plastic accessories: five loaves of bread, two fish and a jug for turning water into wine (not guaranteed to work for real). Also features "glow-in-the-dark miracle hands!"

Oh that oughtta infuse proper respect for God in the little tikes.
_____________

The next one is just as maddening, speaking from a strictly historical perspective...

Dana Perino, presidential press secretary, admitted to not knowing what the Cuban Missile Crisis was after it was referenced in a reporter's question:

"I was panicked a bit because I really don't know about . . . the Cuban Missile Crisis," said Perino, who at 35 was born about a decade after the 1962 U.S.-Soviet nuclear showdown. "It had to do with Cuba and missiles, I'm pretty sure."

So she consulted her best source. "I came home and I asked my husband," {who is British} she recalled. "I said, 'Wasn't that like the Bay of Pigs thing?' And he said, 'Oh, Dana.' "

Sorta sad for a university graduate who minored in political science.

You can quote ME concerning that:

AARRRGGGHHHHH!!
