...guarantees one won't get to sleep.

L: "Six o'clock?!"

B: "No, six-oh-two"

*smiles sweetly*

B: "Of course, I won't be able to get to sleep, now..."

L: "Don't you have a boring book to read?"

B: "I'll give it ten minutes and then I'm goin' downstairs..."

*goes downstairs*

Hey folks, I've found something even better than a boring book....a website talking about web browsers!

Or how Mozilla Firefox is "going organic." I found this on the HuffPost. It's a slightly interesting interview with just enough geeky references to make me sleepy.

In a word (or two) Mozilla corporation is declaring it's software to be "100% organic." By the VP of marketing, this means that,

"'Organic software' is a concept we came up with that we thought would resonate with end users in ways that 'free software' doesn't."

(in other words, they're just changing their terminology)

"I think for people in the open source movement, the term 'organic' is a lot clearer and immediately graspable."

(I looked up 'graspable'....it's really a word)

"So yes, it's a terminology issue for end users - trying to communicate clearly what practitioners already grok."

('grok,' TOO is apparently a word. Taken from a work of science fiction, Stranger in a Strange Land it means "to understand profoundly." When used in connection with programming, it may merely mean "sufficient understanding." 'Grok' comes from the Martian language...which seems highly reminiscent of caveman talk, if you ask me. I fear this means that besides reading up on all kinds of technical manuals, us techie wannabes also have to digest enormous amounts of sci-fi literature for additional vocabulary)

"The reason consumers prefer organic goods in part are that they are better for you and your family. In a similar way, what we're suggesting is that Firefox is better for you because it's produced in a way that respects the user."

(*nods head* I can respect that...)

"And it is a manifestation of Mozilla's core belief in the importance of providing vehicles for participation on the Internet."

(so basically, they are just changing their terminology to make themselves look better to young "green" folks....though with the VP's use of the term 'vehicles,' we cannot rule out the chance they'll be giving away hybrid cars.)

Well what's not to love? Next thing you know, little pop-ups of spotted owls singing "Kum ba yah" will flash onto the screen.

But wait...the Mozilla marketing VP would like feedback...

"I'd love to hear...from your readers."

Alrighty. Here's a comment from 'JL' Ma can appreciate and yes, even respect:

"Our rapidly growing multi-platform environment has organically evolved to host pop culture semaniticular extollations in order to elevate geekdom toward the non-Cobolic state."

And so....*yawn*...Ma toddles off to bed.
