St. Patrick's Day

 
*sigh*

Ain't no way I'm a gonna do a history on this guy. TOO MUCH INFO! Some of it is a little sketchy, anyway.

As to why this holiday is celebrated on today's date...March 17 could be the day he was kidnapped around age 15/16 and carted off by pirates to Ireland--in which case he probably wasn't called "Saint" yet. March 17 is sometimes listed as the day he died.

Or, perhaps people just needed a greenish holiday about this time of year.

Speaking of which, when St. Patrick's Day falls in Holy Week, many liturgical churches do not celebrate the day as they usually would, since it rather presses upon Palm and Easter Sundays.

As for snakes being driven out of Ireland...No. Didn't happen.

St. Patrick is credited however, with the creation of a "Celtic Cross," where a sun or circle is placed at the center of the cross bars. As a missionary to Ireland later in his life, St. Patrick could well have used some pagan symbols (the natives worshiping the sun) to make Christianity seem less foreign.

In some countries St. Patrick's day is a time when people go to church and offer up prayers for missionaries. Now that sounds pretty good to ol' Ma :-)

Missionaries can always use our prayers.

In other news, "it has been a dreary day." (that's a quote from Loren. I'd refer to him as "Pa," but he really hates that name, so being the dutiful and submissive wife that I am, I refrain from calling Loren "Pa" as much as is humanly possible. Isn't that right, Pa?)

Loren has been immersed in a computer quandary for the past two days....something...we do not know just what, but SOMETHING is continually running on the server computer.

It could be a worm...it could be some spyware related program.

It could even be a nefarious plot by Microsoft to contaminate and crush our Linux operating system.

The Instant Messenger blips on and off at random times.

WHATEVER it is, an ominous and sinister tone has settled about the house.

We wait.

We watch.
