Out Ioway

My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of Heaven and earth,
He will not let your foot slip-
He who watches over you will not slumber.

Of New Presidents and Potatoes

I'm not trying to be disrespectful, it just so happens that on this day of the presidential inaugural, we also bought potatoes...and you know Ma can't pass up a good alliterative opportunity.

Not a lot of school got done, as we were watching much of the Washington D.C. events on TV. It's history and I figure it helps us all to process the change of administrations.

Ethan mentioned that at 11 years of age, George W. Bush was the only president he'd ever known. I contemplated reminiscing on my many years of experience and trying to impress them with all the presidents I recall, but then they might have asked me if I remembered Teddy Roosevelt and since that could have incited violence I decided to remain my usual, humble self.

The best part of the parade--which barely got started before stations began cutting back to local programming, was Al Roker. We usually watch NBC...I mean come on....Michael Beschloss is just so DREAMY, historianically speaking.

But anyways, Al Roker had been standing at the side of the route, hoping and hoping to get a chance to speak to President Obama, and the first couple did indeed get out of the limo to walk for a bit at that section. Al called out, "Mr. President...Mr. President!....(didn't catch everything) to which came the reply, "It's very warm!" or something like that.

Al Roker milked that for all it was worth, to the amusement and applause of his colleagues in the booth.

Well, WE were all laughing...I guess you had to be there.

The Potato Report: Loren had to run to town and made the mistake of asking me if I needed anything, hee, hee.

I gave him the assignment of "Milk" and "Potatoes."

"What kind of potatoes?"

Well, how do you explain the intricacies of potato selection to mere males? Buying really cheap potatoes can actually be worse than buying none at all.

In the end, Loren came home with a good buy AND a good quality product.

He did so well, in fact, that I may even consider assigning him food procurement chores of greater responsibility, such as canned goods or possibly even cold cereal. They say people in their elder years can maintain good brain function by learning new skills.

*smiles sweetly*

Speaking of Loren, he received his cholesterol report back from Mayo. It was 171, which is even better than the 182 he had in early December. Due primarily to my lean cooking the three nights pre-test, no doubt.

Let's all give a great big YAHOO :-D

OOoooo, that reminds me...must remember to get more eggs...

Mommy, how do you know Daddy's new heart didn't regenerate his brain? He might even be younger than you now.

Ha. And again I say, "Ho, ho."

Because he still doesn't like to have fun.
