Life in the Yard

It's been raining lizards, yesterday and today, but the sun finally came out, giving Ma a chance to search for new life on Planet Hoyt.

Another attempt at tree transplantation
This maple belongs to Carolyn (though Ethan claims partial rights) and is named, "Arrow." It came from her section of the garden, and replaces the lost-cause-ash, which replaced the storm-hit-maple, from last year.

While pruning the apple trees, I noticed this praying mantis egg sac.
Nolan tells me it can hold 300-400 little bug-beasties.

Very happy to see the pussy willow putting out catkins
This shrub came from a flower arrangement at Dad's funeral. It grew on a farm that my brother and sister-in-law own. Lorinda collected and put together the beautiful arrangement. I took one stick and upon the advice of brother Solly, stuck it in water and it rooted!

It's got sentimental value.
