Out Ioway

My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of Heaven and earth,
He will not let your foot slip-
He who watches over you will not slumber.

Ethan and Ma, Strike Again

With rain in the forecast, I decided that morning school could wait while Ethan and I tackled the hard half of the yard, again.

This would have worked a little better if I hadn't rolled over to snooze just before 7 and suddenly woken up to see that it was 8:30.

OH well.

Even so, I didn't exactly hurry, but my fine young mower-man filled up both machines and started without me. We have a pretty good system whereby he starts out on the straight stuff, I come along and do most of the edges, and then join him in whacking off the green-middle-goodness.

Went super. Even though a bit of the drizzly started, we kept at it and got the whole half lawn completed in approximately 1.5 hours.

Are we great, or what ?

Meanwhile, the younger boys had been doing dishes and folding all of their clothes (including Ethan's) so they hadn't been completely idle.

Imagine their chagrin at my coming in and discovering (after I cleaned up) that they were still doing school that morning!

I knew they were in for a good afternoon, though.

Ethan and Carolyn's glasses had come in so the three of us headed off to Waverly for optical pickup and grocery shopping.

Promised to Trevor and Nolan: extra game time AND the watching of a Godzilla movie! Whoo-ee, it just doesn't get any better than this :-)

There was a slight problem in that Trevor wanted to see Rodan and Nolan wished for Mothra....or maybe it was the other way around...who can tell when we're talking about inflatable, fakey monsters?

In the end, they settled on Ghidrah, which combined all the beasts into one painfully dubbed package. The most amazing part was that this was settled without my intervention, saving my arbitrary skills for the more important issues of "who" gets the neat Lego hinges and for "how long." (really, most of you have no idea what I go through...)

With that settled, another small miracle occurred when it became apparent that Davis Vision (the lab that our insurance forces our eye doctor to use) had actually cut Ethan's lenses to the correct size for his frame, something almost unheard of in their history with our family.

While pleased, I am slightly disappointed that I now have no reason to give them a snarky performance review when our eye doctor's office (whom I love and appreciate, I must hasten to add) send me the Davis Vision, "How did you like our service?" forms.

With every silver lining comes a little gray cloud.

Whilst in the vicinity of a favorite resale shop, we stopped for a few minutes and captured the following books:

The Leatherstocking Saga by James Fenimore Cooper (HB)

Agatha Christie's Detectives: Five Complete Novels (HB)
--The Murder at the Vicarage
--Dead Man's Folly
--Sad Cypress
-- Towards Zero
-- N o M?

Treasure Island
by Robert Louis Stevenson (PB)

Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain (PB)

Hamlet by Shakespeare (PB)

Dialogues of Plato (PB)

The Prince by Niccolò Machiavelli (PB)

OH yeah!

I think we can call it a very good day.

"Rodan!"

"Rodan!"
"Mothra!"
"I have an idea! Let's watch Ghidrah! It has both of them in it!"
"Yeah! Let's watch Gidrah! Then we'll both be happy!"

Ha ha ha! No matter how the discussion really went, it makes me laugh to imagine Nolan and Trevor deciding this! Ahh the power of classic Godzilla!
