Out Ioway

My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of Heaven and earth,
He will not let your foot slip-
He who watches over you will not slumber.

Stuff Just Keeps Happenin'

When I mentioned today was a "free day," I had forgotten Loren had a rehab session today. It went OK, though they always push him fairly hard.

The real hassle was trying to sleep, last night. That biopsy ordeal still had him pretty sore, and sleep was illusive. (or is that allusive? :-) {*grins* elusive is the correct term}We were messing around with all kinds of combinations, and he finally ended up in the recliner for a few hours, and then back to the bed, heavily padded with both comforters bunched underneath him.

After Rehab, this morning, we headed out Wal-Mart way, and while he sat in the car, I stocked up on a body pillow, and two foam mattress pads. We are going to cushion those old bones, or my name isn't Ma Hoyt! I succumbed to two more Christmas CD's, Rosemary Clooney, and "Highland Christmas." (bagpipes :-) Course, I can't try them out until Loren finishes listening to Sean Hannity.

Shopping took so long, that we realized we would not get back to The Big House before they closed the kitchen for 2:00 cleaning. We were literally FORCED to go to Arby's for lunch. Just me and the hubby, eating a cozy lunch in an old Toyota with a mismatched hood. Talk about your ambiance! I enjoyed myself. It gave me the opportunity to initiate Loren into the mixing of my special sauce for curly fries. Two parts ketchup, and one part horsey sauce. Nothing better!

We have been keeping the cell phones hot this afternoon. Kendra had her PLAN test this morning, (precursor to the ACT) and I wanted to hear about that. Consultations ensued as to the advisability of going to prayer meeting this evening. Most fevers are gone, or nearly so, but it was decided to stay home one more time. The kids have to be in good health tomorrow when they go for their flu shots! Yes, I got them approved, since their Dad received a heart transplant. The local clinic just received a batch and I want to get in on the "goods." They will even save two for Ardith and Sharon, when they get back for Christmas. (don't worry, it won't be NEARLY as bad as getting your wisdom teeth out)

More phone calls, this time explaining that "Moby Dick," the 15 passenger van, was dead. Jason and Grandpa jumped the old boat and got it going again. My, but those older kids are gaining a lot of life experience.

I think I'll stop, now, before something else breaks down. Possibly me.

Well, there is nothing like a good romantic luncheon after a good heart racing exercise time. I keep telling my hubby that it really doesnt matter where the meal is as much as who the meal is eaten with. Maybe we are just easy to please. It may be that we are just very flexible after having ten kids.(lots of changes of plans made quickly because of sick children)Oh well, we just make the best of it and move on. Is Loren on a restrictive diet...like a heart diet or does that change some when you get a new heart?

Hi MoM!

I had a nice little IM chat with your daughter this evening :-) (don't worry, I won't tell anyone about that witness protection thing)

Loren's restrictions are not as stringent as some, since he is still underweight and has always struggled to gain. (oh, the incongruity of life!)

Loren's heart problems originated not from coronary artery disease, but from electrical instability. Angiograms have always showed his arteries to be clear, with one unrelated exception.

One thing he DOES have to watch is potassium. The cyclosporine causes the body to retain potassium, and too much can actually make the heart stop. They really watch the levels, and when they get above 5.5 they can give a drug to lower it.

No grapefruit, cranberries. Little peanut butter or bananas. I'm sure you can whip up a more comprehensive list than this comment space allows :-)

"illusive. (or is that allusive? :-) "Apparently the correct spelling was eluding you. Elusive is the form you wanted.

Do you not like the more "normal and traditional" Christmas stuff, like Mormon Tabernacle Choir?

Thanks for the correction. I'm so glad I only appeared ignorant for a few days. Usually, it's much longer :-)

Yes, I like the more traditional stuff. It's the standard from which others diverge. We actually have the Morman Tabernacle Choir Christmas CD, but I left it at home for the kids.

(They're quite possessive of their Christmas paraphernalia)

Yes, and I can promise we'll be listening to the Messiah at least several times a week.
