Out Ioway

My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of Heaven and earth,
He will not let your foot slip-
He who watches over you will not slumber.

Georgia Peaches

(First of all, I would just like to say, DAD, that YES, we arrived here safely :-)

We have survived the first two days of the Hoyt reunion. So far, I would say it is a smashing success, in that, Nolan's leg cast is still intact, no one has gotten more than one bite from a fire ant, (and Derek, I think you got off easy considering what you guys were doing to those ant hills) and, most of all, I just picked up two more bags of Dove's Dark Chocolate. So, no matter what happens, I have the serotonin to cover it. For a few days, anyway.

Next, I would hasten to say, to all my relatives, that, no matter WHAT I discourse on, here, we are having a wonderful time. Certain literary liberties may be taken, solely in the interest of providing more.....mmmmm......interest.

I've decided that a daily update on the food is most definitely in order, if only to drive poor Moore into a frenzy. Moore, being a most congenial chap from LeTourneau, who, despite his gracious manners, will go down in the history of my children, as being the one who quaffed the last of the lemonade from Ardith's graduation party.

Last night: Taco Salad--a Hoyt reunion favorite. Would you believe some of these folks put rice and, get this, COCONUT in it?

Tonight: Shrimp and Grits--something tells me we're not in Iowa, any more. In the event that Loren and I survive tonight's repast, I shall make every attempt to share a picture of said seafood.

This being Georgia, and this being peach season, the planned activity of the day was to visit "The Peach Shed." Naturally, one's first assumption would take this to be a grotto-like apparition, made entirely out of peach stones. Amazingly enough, this assumption was wrong!

After a three hour drive in the country (OK, it was only 30 minutes, but it seemed like three hours) we arrived in the little town of Musella, where we turned the corner and beheld the striking visage of "The Musella Gin and Cotton Co."
Hmmmm....Gin, Cotton and Peaches. Sounded like an amusing little cocktail.

Oh, WAIT! "Dickey's Peach Co." was right beside it.....OK....now I understand.

A call had been placed beforehand, to assure that we would be able to observe the operations of peaches being put into boxes, and ferried round and about on conveyor belts in most interesting fashion. Fun and educational for the kiddies.

Unfortunately, some time before our arrival, the machinery broke down. BUT, they were still selling fresh peach ice cream :-) YUM! (did you get that, Moore? FRESH....PEACH.....ICE CREAM!!)

What a shame a couple of my kids could not finish theirs, literally FORCING me to consume satisfying quantities of creamy.....fresh......soft serve peach ice cream. *happy sigh*

Nolan and Trevor and I got to watch a forklift operator, so, really, it was not a bad deal. After that, another trip home, a little nappy for Trevor and I, and then, I GOT TO KICK LOREN OFF HIS BROTHER STAN'S COMPUTER SO I COULD BLOG :-)

Reunions. It just doesn't get any better than this.

If you send it snail mail, I am sure you could raise quite a fuss in the local postal office! Unknown substance leaking from a parcel...???? Just a thought. Maybe we could even be in the news.?!
