Out Ioway

My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of Heaven and earth,
He will not let your foot slip-
He who watches over you will not slumber.

State of the Day

If it's Monday, it must be Indiana. Hmmmm, I wonder if there are any famous people around here we could visit. Oh well, guess we'll just have to make do with family.

We are staying with my brother Doug, wife Cindy and family in the Land O' Goshen. I think this is the first time in 8 years that all of my siblings have been together. We had a bang-up picnic for the fourth of July, and yes, MORE PICTURES! The kids have been having a great time, which is totally unrelated to the fact that there is a built-in pool in the back yard. The kids started swimming shortly after 9 a.m., their sole motivating purpose being to make Doug and Cindy feel good. They have the sunburns to prove it. Whoever said, "Blood is thicker than water," wasn't kidding. I have no idea how this applies to the current situation, but I'm pretty sure he wasn't kidding, anyway.

Had a nice drive up the east side of Indiana on State Highway 1. Picturesque and quiet. Went through several old fashioned looking towns that reminded me of Mayberry. It was so nice, we even rolled down the windows to better enjoy the bucolic countryside. (What is it with men and their attempts at better gas milage?) I think it was then that a bee flew in through the window, and, despite absolutely NO provocation, met up with the insurmountable wall of "Ma's" face, and made the ultimate sacrifice on the left cheek. But even the honeybee sting was sorta pastoral, in a mind-numbing painful kinda way.

But enough of this insectival frivolity. It is almost bed time, that wonderful part of the day when little kids go to sleep and the rest of us stay up and party. Let me rephrase that....the teenagers stay up and play card games, and the poor tired parents pushing 45 and 50 (or so) have to head for bed, so they can save up the energy to visit "Old Country Buffet" on the morrow. (an event that assures Grandpa Baker will live in the hearts of his grandchildren forever)

It's tough, *burp* but just one of the sacrifices family members do for each other.

"Could someone please roll me back to the bedroom?......"
