If it's September......

......it must be apple picking time.
And so another seasonal milestone passes: the annual picking of the apples.
Finally, a use for all those computer case boxes. First, though, I had to empty out approximately four large trash bags worth of plastic peanuts, bubble-wrap, Styrofoam, and something I like to call, "big air-pockets encased in plastic."
Oh, there were a few moaners. Jason was reluctant to part with his lap-top, and certain short people thought they were entitled to the step-ladder. But it all worked out, with only a dozen or so apples being completely out of reach. We can always shake those down later to make wine. (I'm kidding, Mom :-)
The very best part--other than taking a nap and eating oodles of home-made tapioca pudding which I stirred while reading a book about Civil War spy Rose O'Neal Greenhow-- *HUGE intake of breath* --was not having to pick any apples, but do something restful, like mow the lawn.
And so, at the close of a semi-successful day, I leave you with this ancient Irish blessing:
May you rise to meet the apples,Tweet
May the clippings be always to the side,
And may you ever have children to-do-all-that-time-consuming-stuff-you-couldn't-be-bothered-with.

The Progeny
