In MY day.....

.....libraries merely housed books.

Now they are also home to dangerous looking dinosauric creatures, dear to the hearts of little boys. Trevor wants to be sure you can see all the lovely teeth of the soft, furry Tyrannosaurus Rex.

And speaking of home, we made it there, alive and reasonably well, after traveling to two libraries and three stores, yesterday. It only took 5 plus hours. Showing amazing fortitude and self-denial, we by-passed the Goodwill store. It was hard, but we did. *sigh*

And what literary gems did Ma pick up? Well, through no conscious effort on my part, I came away with a war, or more specifically, a CIVIL war theme. The following practically leapt off the "New Non-Fiction" shelves and into my hands:

"More Terrible Than Victory" by Craig L.Chapman
"Wild Rose" (true story about a Civil War spy) by Ann Blackman
"Perspectives on World War II: No End Save Victory" essays by Stephen E. Ambrose, John Keegan, and the like...
"The World is Flat" (a timely and essential update on globalization) by Thomas L. Friedman

and,

"Death Sentences: How Clichés, Weasel Words, and Management-Speak are Strangling Public Language" by Don Watson

I've started the last book, first, and it looks to be a must read for people in linguistics, media, education, management, those pursuing grad school, and....well....just about everyone, I guess :-) I might have some quotes from this one, if I can narrow them down to a page per day.....
