Arte de Nolan, in honor of Youth Art Month

With the onset of spring, weddings are literally buzzing 'round our heads, as three more of the cousins prepare to tie the knot of matrimonial bondage. Of course, I mean that in the nicest of ways :-D (for the most part)

So, with nephews getting married in Florida (April), Texas (May) and Indiana (June), we would be hard pressed to attend all events. Still, it is within this swirling nebula of nuptials that the idea for the following drawing sprang forth.



I am told this was me, as in Ma Hoyt, though unbeknownst to the artist, I was not a "Ma" at the time.

Here I am, complete with flowered hat and earrings. (which I don't wear, actually)

Nice detail on the dress :-) It definitely looks weddingish.

Off to the top left we can see that I am thinking of candles. At this same moment, I would also seem to have just finished a tick-tack-toe game. When I asked Nolan, "Who won?" He thought for a moment and replied, "Player two."

OKAY.

Moving on we see a face that appears to be filled with conflicting emotions. Is the bride happy? Is she perplexed? Is she still trying to perfect her Spock imitation?

The artist had no real idea of my emotions, since he was not "to be" for....*counts*....19 years, yet. He did tell me that I was "thinking about getting married."

If I may speak for myself, which I do, I would have to say that on my wedding day I was MOST happy and completely non-conflicted :-D

And what of the mysterious arm coming in from outside the picture?

It is the groom. And while it would be tempting to make some commentary on some deeper symbolic meaning in all of this, I must (regretfully) refrain :-)

Children just draw what pops into their heads, and underlying meanings aren't often involved.

Who knows, maybe he thought I was sucking my thumb...
