Dear Ma,
I am really stressed out this Christmas season. About this time every year I'm expected to put out a witty newsletter that tells something about each family member. As well as giving the annual updates on each person, the letter should have appropriate spiritual overtones and be positive in nature despite the fact that I have not dusted my house in 36 months. I'm starting to lose sleep!
My question is this: do you think I should go with a sacred or secular stamp on the envelope?
Signed,
Desperate to be right
Dear DTBR,
You need to get your priorities straight. You mentioned NOTHING about putting up Christmas decorations, buying and wrapping oodles of presents and planning your holiday meal!
What's more important? Tired communiqués with friends and family? Or decking the halls with something other than cobwebs?
C'mon! You can DO this! Are you going to let down all those people who drive by on the road? String up some lights fer cryin' out loud or folks will worry when they drive by and only see a room full of Legos through the window.
As to the letter, here's what you do: write everyone's name on a postcard and put check marks by the ones that are still alive.
(be sure and write neatly so people can see how much you care)
Get a bunch more postcards and run them through your copy machine. This works especially well if you are low on toner as it will give a real nice light, antiquey-looking finish.
Then treat yourself to a Pumpkin Spice Latte. Pampering yourself is a necessity and besides, you can hold it in one hand while running the vacuum with the other.
And with the postcard option you won't have to worry about choosing between stamps. The only one available is the "Florida Panther," which could work out just fine if everyone you know lives in that state.
Happy holidays and keep smilin',
Ma
