Winter Morning on the Iowa Plains
Fog flocked the trees again last night and as is evident, plenty of ice remains, some of it from that first storm in early December.
Oh yeah...I wondered what happened to that pan. Another case of rice-cooking gone amok.
I turned the wrong burner to "low" and then went off to my laptop, leaving the rice to boil madly for 27 minutes. It was so hot and burny smelling that I just "temporarily" stuck it out in the snow.
It was an instance similar to this that led to the development of brown rice.
Would you believe this was taken from a helicopter over top a volcanic crater?
Or, it could be snow in a knothole...
There they are in all their glory...the Three Sisters and their Two Cousins, once removed.
On thediet new lifestyle front, Ma has lost another pound :-)
That makes a net loss of 5 pounds over 4.5 weeks. That'll do considering the natchos and chocolate pudding cake on Superbowl Sunday. Also, it was a weird week activity-wise and I didn't get in all the desired treadmill time.
So basically the endeavor is going well. Naturally, next week could turn out badly, plunging me into the depths of despair...
...but until then I'm happy.

Ma, you need to look for a rice cooker at Goodwill. (Actually new ones aren't very expensive, but for your size of family, you'd need a big model.) I resisted getting one for a long time, but now I have one and I LOVE it! Perfect rice every time and not a minute of fussing to get it that way.
The three sisters, the 2 cousins...but what about the adopted youngster to the left? Where does he fit in?
Yes, Thainamu. It usually turns out just fine as long as I: 1)remember to set the timer, 2)remember to turn down the heat, 3)don't leave the house while the rice is cooking.
