Cedar Rapids

Several people have asked about Ardith. Thankfully, she lives up on a hill, in a hilly residential area that is not right next to the river.

Also good is that fact that she lives on the same side of the river as her work. She carts Jason to his job at another Rockwell Collins building and they've had to take some longer routes to work, is all.

Jason said as far as he knew, Rockwell Collins was not planning to shut down.

When it rains terribly hard, Ardith gets a little trickle in her basement that goes directly to a drain. I believe Jason's set up on the other side of the basement from that area.

However, some residents are without power and may remain so for up to a week or two. Also, the water supply is at 25% and people are being asked to only use water for drinking purposes....so, I don't know how the whole bath and hair-washing situation is going :-p

The city has gone beyond the 100 and 500-year flood monikers...it's truly the worst flooding Cedar Rapids has ever experienced.

Normal river levels are 12 feet and it's expected to crest around 32 feet sometime today. Officials are not completely sure since the instrument that measures the river's water levels washed away...
