Dark Was the Night...
...and lonely the hour, when three Hoyt peoples awakened.
'Twas the dreaded day of cardiology appointments for two of los childros, in Iowa City.
Even now, as they ate their knock-off shredded wheat, echos and other forms of cardio testing were being prepared for the hapless Sweet-Carolyn and Derek-Me-Lad.
Brave Ma, had decided not to get up at 4:00, but to sleep in until 4:03. Alas, it was not to be. Sometime in the early morning, after tortured dreams of church cleaning, our matronic Ma awakened early, stomach tightening into knottishness as she waited for el alarmo to ringo.
After interminable minutes, she heard the tell-tale squeak of the stair. Hmmm. It was the high school senior, stealthily creakng down the stair. She knew it must be 3:45. She had 15 more minutes to sleep!
After a leisurely 9, she packed it in, sleep-wise, turning off her alarm so as not to awaken the already awake husband.
Surely, turning off the alarm early had saved a minute part of its battery. O Ma...even in the wee hours of morning, you've done your part to go green, and save the planet!
In preparation for the 2 1/2 hour journey, Ma carefully goes over her supplies:
--Diet Cokes? check
--Cooler with Ice blob? check
--Straws? check
--CHOCOLATE? check
--Spicy Avocado Pringles Chips? (foil for pop) check
--Paperback book, A Beautiful Mind (autobiography)? check
--Crossword puzzles? check
--Industrial-sized purse to hold everything? check
All systems appear ready for 5:15 lift-off...
