Merry Old England - Take 2

I believe this is St. Paul's Cathedral. The place was so big I couldn't get a picture to capture its entirety.  Any small portion contains multiple points of architectural beauty.

We walked past St. Paul's, across the Millennium Footbridge (referenced in yesterday's post), across the Thames to the Globe Theater. Had a marvelous guide who brought everything to life and had more than a couple hilarious insights.

They were working on modifications to the stage for a future production. Notice the thatch roof? Only thatched roof in London, if I remember correctly.

The guide pointed out that the roof depicts heaven, the stage: earth, and hell is represented by that which is below the stage. These are referenced in Shakespeare's plays.

We couldn't take pictures in the cathedral, which we visited after the Globe theater. After walking around I sat down in one of the numerous chairs, as did others. That's when the organist came in to "practice." As in, "oh-my-word-I-am-sitting-in-St. Paul's Cathedral-in-London-listening-to-a-pipe-organ....somebody-pinch-me!"

The last pictures shows the steps of St. Paul. We didn't see the bird woman from Mary Poppins but there was a demonstration taking place as we exited. Signs were about Syria.

This was just the first day. We were getting used to using the Tube, changing stations, following Paulette (the head of the English department). Man were we tired, having essentially been up for hours because of the overnight flight.

Ate supper at an Italian restaurant. Seriously....the most innocent of side dishes tasted extraordinary. I was taking it easy due to apprehension over gall bladder problems, but the food was great.

Some of the group went to see Harrods, after dinner, but I went back to the hotel and crashed. After I crawled under the duvet to get warm.

Speaking of health, a little side note: I had a Hida Scan this afternoon and await the results. But I'm guessing it will not show anything. However, feeling unwell up to the trip led to a couple of tentative days. But it got better as we went along. By the end I was eating a meat pie, ha ha.
