Oops, I missed a "holiday."

Though it's not one I plan to celebrate. I was cruising the Huffington Post and ran across an article mentioning that tomorrow is...

Evolution Sunday.

"The effort to bridge the gap between science and faith is what Evolution Sunday is all about. The chief organizer of the Evolution Sunday project, Butler University's Michael Zimmerman."

And that's a little interesting...

But anyway, it seems pretty clear from reading the comments under the article (which I can't recommend for young readers, due to some language) that in general there are two groups of people involved:

--"Fundies" who interpret the Bible literally and are incapable of rational thought, ignoring "scientific facts" in the process, and

--Everyone else. The "everyone else" includes some Christians who don't wish to be identified with the "rabid, foaming at the mouth" fundamentalists and want to try the gap-bridging thing.

But I don't agree that everyone falls into just those two groups, though it definitely makes it easier to ridicule the other guy. And I have heard at least one respected creationist ridicule the opposition.

Thankfully, there are plenty of facts to be had. I haven't looked at every link on this web page, but I think it would be an excellent starting point to learn how very much scientific evidence there is to dispute evolution.

Hopefully the contributors aren't too smug in their approach. Arrogance and disdain are hardly the best avenue for reasoned discourse and persuasion.

So in the interest of "rational thought," I urge everyone to explore the topic of creationism. If you already believe it, then it never hurts to be more informed so you can better handle the facts of your arguments.

And if you're a confirmed evolutionist, maybe you should check out the site. Then you can discover for yourself if those of us who believe in a literal creation are all a bunch of ignorant sheep. Or not.

On a slightly related note, it's just barely possible, that some of us greet the dire reports concerning "global warming" with skepticism in part, because they've been trumpeted by the very folks who bring us Evolution As Fact.
