Out Ioway

My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of Heaven and earth,
He will not let your foot slip-
He who watches over you will not slumber.

Derek turns 17 !

(celebrated one day late, on Sunday evening. click on pictures to enlarge)

Can't believe the fifth child is that old. Just a few more kids to get in the work force and Loren and I can retire, heh, heh.

Before we get started with this birthday post, I will let you know that at no time will Derek's full face appear in a picture. This is either because:

a) he had to join the witness protection program after testifying in a messy trial involving ties between homeschoolers and the Mafia, OR,

b) there's something about people this age--particularly males--who prefer not to be plastered all over their mother's blog.

The birthday meal was homemade pizza: one cheese and two chicken fajita supreme. One of the fajita's had mostly hot salsa in the sauce.

The dessert was cherry delight, which I can now reveal used real whipping cream that was two days past the expiration date.

SOME people took extraordinarily amounts of time to consume their pizza, leaving little boys to make weird faces and do silly things in their seats.
It's funny how males this age have no convictions against being photo-snapped.

"Happy Birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy BIRTH-day dear Derek, Happy birthday to you."

"OK, now let's take a pic....*WHOOSH*....
..."Derek, you Turkey!...I didn't get the picture!"

*sigh*

Not only that, his exuberance blew melty wax onto the dessert.

We all agreed it was a good thing Jason wasn't present. Jason has this "thing" about fetid breath being blown across birthday desserts.

First, a present from Nolan. Nolan ALWAYS gives presents. This one was a set of three empty vitamin bottles--two, complete with lids--and a purple pen.
It came with a note, " 'I hope you have a nice birthday.' from Nolan to Derek."

Derek took perverse pleasure in peeking inside this barely opened present so the others couldn't see....
...a two CD set of piano pieces.

To go along with his copy of The Federalist Papers...
...The Anti-Federalist Papers.

Ahhhh, a twofer from C.S. Lewis.
See? The cover is personally signed by the author :-D

Ma had "had it" with the comments on my inability to package things that were obvious....
....THIS time I chose a larger box and stuffed in cardboard pieces and crumpled sacks.

Just another bust, as far as Trevor's concerned....no toys....nothing to "borrow"....it's enough to make a fella not wanna grow up.
But for the birthday dude...a multi-CD set of Baroque music! ("DUDE!") Derek has already commented favorably on the Goldberg Variations.
