It's a Butterfly!
We noticed that the chrysalis had darkened by yesterday, which is a sign the butterfly could emerge in 24 hours...
And it did :-)
Twelve days from chrysalis to butterfly. Time to carefully take off the lid...
"Wow! I've never been this close to a butterfly before!"
Nolan was PRET-TY excited.
Then, in an instant, it flew off to a nearby Ash tree...

That's nothing. When I was his age, I used to train monarch butterflies to perch on my tongue, three at a time, while I held my mouth open. There, they would perform synchronized wing-dances to the tune of "Brown Eyed Girl."
Oh PLEASE!
I started laughing so hard I could barely eat my Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos :-D
