End of an Era

Ok...maybe that's a little dramatic :-)

But I just returned home from my very last stint of church cleaning. Here's a look at Washington Reformed Church, as it appeared on Wednesday's morning of frosty goodness.


Of course it was a little sad.

The last time sweeping.

The last time wiping off tables in the basement.

The last time slurping bugs out of window sills.

As I turned off the sweeper (for the last time) and rolled up the cord, a wave of nostalgia washed over me....I gave a gentle caress to the door frame of the Sunday school room ...

Who am I KIDDING?

I was grinning the entire last 30 minutes :-D Sorry if that seems callous, but I've been looking forward to this day for literally years, and I'm gonna enjoy it, baby!

Or I would, except my throat is scratchy, my nose is sniffly and I have the urge to cough...

Good thing I got the work outta the way today, for tomorrow I could be feeling pretty punk.

Loren has felt fairly rotten all day. Derek feels better but he doesn't sound better. Ethan seems a tad improved, though he had strange sounds in his lungs this morning.

Even though it doesn't quite seem like party-time, I know I'll enjoy my new found freedom. Particularly when the end of next week rolls around and I don't have to mentally plan that into ye olde schedule :-)

The Supper Report: last night's wing-and-a-prayer supper turned out OK. One or two people actually said they liked it. (it was rather dry) And several people said nothing at all but ate some, so they get points for not complaining :-)

Tonight's fare? Old Fashioned Bean Soup

-bag of navy beans (stick in crockpot--cover in 1.5 inches of water--in morning, on 'low')

After lunch, add:

-2 or 3 chicken bullion cubes (purists will want to use real chicken stock. Purists are always trying to show off, that way)
-chopped up carrots, celery and ham--I use turkey ham
-salt and pepper

If you're lucky, you'll have two young ladies in the family who can make fresh bread, which goes rather nicely with the soup. As does applesauce that you made last fall and can pull out of the freezer.

There ya go. Aren't I all homespun and housewiferly?
