More Bird Exuberance

The goldfinches just go bonkers during morning feeding time.
Ethan counted 8 males earlier this morning. I believe there are five in this picture, along with one female, on the lower left.

I was going to buy another finch feeder, just to see how many we could handle, but I forgot. Not sure where I'd have hung it, since the ol' stand is quite reduced from it's previous glory.

Here is another migratory visitor, the White-Crowned Sparrow, who stopped by on his way to Canada.
Their winter grounds do coincide with parts of Iowa, so it's possible he was around...but I don't recall seeing this fellow. I love the bold white markings on the head. Very similar to the white-throated sparrow (shown two posts below), but slightly larger, lacking the white troat patch and with no yellow blob above the eye.

Really, these guys flit all over the place, trying to bounce each other away from perches.


Favorite picture of the day. Common lady, with wind-ruffled feathers.
Sure, she's just a female house sparrow, but I still likes the look of her.

Hang in there little lady...I'm pullin' for ya.

OK. That makes up for the missing post of yesterday.
