Strange Day
It's hard to concentrate.
Iowa is buzzing with the news of a local football coach--well loved and a pillar of the community--shot to death, this morning, by a former football player.
Pretty bad when we make CNN. Here's an article from The Des Moines Register.
______________
Anyway, I did promise pictures of yesterday's work project.
Carolyn and Trevor inspect the evergreen bushes and clip off the dead parts.

Marj Krull, a Master Gardener, came over from Clarksville to help.
I could just kick myself for not getting a stand-up photo of her.
Sharon asked for "before and after" pictures, but I sorta forgot. Here's a little taste, however....this ring of daylilies had been infiltrated by phlox, coneflowers and also binderweed, of all things.

This photo is actually from the opposite garden, which also had a ring of daylilies. This picture was taken after we were done with that side.

Here's my crew, all red-faced and sweaty.
It was a long day for them, and cold drinks from Casey's helped revive us, as we were drooping pretty badly, by 2:30. I could have easily downed 3 grapefruit juice drinks, but limited myself to one.
After returning home, we all crashed. The kids watched cartoons and Melinda and I snoozed on the couches. Thankfully, I ended up taking my hot bath before the power went off. Then I lay down and snoozed some more. We probably stayed out in the heat longer than advisable, but no one seems worse for wear, today.
I cleaned up all the dead branches in our yard and had to cut up the large one with the trusty bow saw. Pictures of the storm damage, later today (I hope).
Now, back to mowing between downpours.

I looked up Aplington and found it is very close to you all. Yes, quite a shock! People can go crazy even in rural Iowa, I guess. :-(
