Shoveling Snow and Motherhood: Parallel Universes

Since I may flesh this out as a doctoral dissertation one day, I figure it won't hurt to jot down the main points, now.

1. Mechanical Redundancy: As in LOTS of repetitive work, performed repeatedly and after that, redone over and over and over again. Moving snow, doing laundry, washing dishes: all mind-numbing chores perfectly designed to turn you into a robot.

2. Remuneration: Non-monetary. This is always billed as more desirable than the dreaded mammon, especially by those receiving regular paychecks. It's not that we want a salary exactly, but would a 401K be completely out of the question?

3. Nausea: Cleaning up after a stomach virus or shoveling until you feel light-headed, it's all pretty much the same. And don't forget, you'll probably have to do it again (see # 1).

4. Thanks: Related to #2 but no less non-existent.

5. Finish: Ha ha, there IS no end. But we take what the vocation gives us, be it broken dryer, cracked shovel, or heartbreak.

And there you have it.

Don't think I can't find 10,000 words per chapter.
