The Best Christmas, Ever
We have returned from our Christmas excursion to the lone prairies of Iowa. What a glorious time! I cannot remember when I have laughed so much. Loren and I are already thinking about the next time we can get away.
For the first time in approximately three years, Loren got behind the wheel. (well, not counting moving vehicles in the drive, or taking a short test run in a newly maintenanced car) It was nice for me to have a respite from driving. (I know you teenagers will not understand this) Particularly since I still exerted full control of the radio :-)
We received some very "appropriate" presents, the details of which I will go into tomorrow. And I think it is safe to say the kids will have a lot to "view" in the coming dull winter months.
All the tribe is doing fine. More than fine, they are thriving. Loren thinks Jason may have eclipsed him in height. The menfolk kept themselves busy by thawing a frozen pipe, checking on all the vehicles, and rounding up more electronic paraphernalia for Loren to bring back.
I had plenty of opportunities to snuggle and cuddle with the younger ones. I even got to chase Trevor on my hands and knees, eliciting squeals of unbridled glee. It was SO fun to mess about in the kitchen, and laugh and tease and laugh some more. I had tears coming from my eyes, more than once. Laughing and crying may seem like opposite extremes, but when each takes it's course around the globe of emotion, they meet once again, hitting head on in a frenzy that can turn from laughing to crying to laughing again in a moment. It was good exercise.
Ardith and Sharon did all the cooking, and a fine Christmas dinner, it was. We are filled to the brim, with good food and boisterous fellowship.
Nolan looked a little surprised when we headed toward the door, and Carolyn got teary, which she is apt to do. But guys, we shall return! The meeting made all the sweeter by being apart for a time. At least your ma and pa can rest in the knowledge that you are all doing great, together.
God be praised.
