Out Ioway

My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of Heaven and earth,
He will not let your foot slip-
He who watches over you will not slumber.

Loren Goes Electric

Not much to tell, tonight. Loren had Rehab for the last time this week. (the clinic is taking Christmas Eve off. And I have heard they are clearing as many patients as possible out of the hospital for Christmas)

I ran to Walmart and got back a little late to pick up Loren, and then was informed he had another appointment in less than an hour! So we scurried back to the Big House, shoveled lunch down our throats and then Loren was off to his Pain Therapy. I did not go in with him, so you will have to accept a third hand report. There was a heating pad for 20 minutes, *yawn* and then some type of electrical stimulation of the area of the crushed vertabra. *glances over at hubby taking nightly blood pressure* "How would you describe that pain therapy stuff, Loren? This is for the folks back home, dear...." *presses fists to temples, thinks deeply* "I don't know. Sorta like blood rushing back into your finger after you've squished it. "

So, there you have it. Straight from the horse's mouth, or, as we like to say it in "Ma's" Spanish class, "Straight del moutho del horso." (I couldn't find it in my puny glossary, but I'm pretty sure that was it. Yeah, we're gonna go with that)

Another laundry day. It's a good thing we don't beat that stuff on the rocks anymore, 'cause this weather would be murder on the hands. By the way, that prodigal sock I mentioned earlier has returned. I guess it discovered life in the big city was not all it's cracked up to be. I didn't ask any questions, just stuck it quietly in the drawer.

Loren is thrilled to pieces since the audio adapter Ardith mailed two days ago arrived this afternoon. That completes our clandestine cable hookup. I think the Guest Guidebook was set up by people who did not comprehend that a computer and a cable outlet in the wall equals a TV, conspiratorially speaking. We are still living by the letter of the law, anyway. Though how I will get my Spanish lessons learned with Fox News on half the day, I do NOT know. I told Loren, "Now there's even less reason to leave the room. " "Exactly. That's the whole point."

Time to mosey off to bed. I finally finished, "The Hope," (which reminds me, Mom and Dad, I trust you still have that book about Abba Eban. I have a hankerin' to read that.....) and now on to quite different material, "The Yearling." It's never too late to catch up on what the public school system neglected in my literature classes.

Speaking of being young, here is a picture of several of the kids during tree decoration activity. Carolyn (10) is partially hidden, but those scamps, Ethan (8) and Nolan (5) are in plain view for all to admire. They do not always display such fraternal affection.......

So hopefully he'll have some relief from the pain, and even healing from that injury.
Have been trying to understand the ban on tv. Is it just the logistics or expense of providing tv services for each room, or do they want the patients to be free of the burden of the news? But you say there is cable, so . . .? I don't get it.
I remember "To Kill a Mockingbird" as thought-provoking reading. Glad you have some gems available. Now you've got your own little library! Who is the author of "The Hope"?

Becky and Loren,

I want to wish you both a Merry Christmas. I'm sad for you that you can't be with your kids, and I'm sad for them that they can't be with you. But on the other hand, I'm happy that things are headed in the right direction with regard to Loren's healing; may the Lord be praised for his loving kindness and faithfulness to each of us.

We are currently in south south Texas where my mom lives, but it is hovering at 32 degrees. That kind of weather comes only every few years here, and is cruel to so many people who do not have heat in their homes. And it isn't good for the orange crop either.

I'm missing my grandmother who passed away this past year but who was lively right up to the end at age 92. And I'm missing our son, Andrew, in Africa. But I have much to thank God for, and I do acknowledge his goodness to me.

Merry Christmas to you both and to your kids at home too!

"The Hope," is by Herman Wouk, (who also wrote, "The Caine Mutiny") and is a novel woven around the actual events surrounding the beginings of Israeli Statehood.

As to the TV situation, there is no reason stated for the ban in rooms, but I suspect it has something to do with the possibility of too much noise bleeding through walls. Or, maybe they just want to encourage people to get out and socialize. OR, maybe they just want to make sure no one has too much fun.

There are lounges on every floor, complete with TV's. At certain times of the week, however, most all the males monopolize every TV for the sake of football! (I swear, sometime I'm gonna go in there ahead of time and turn on the shopping network)

Loren and I haven't tried to watch much, except a bit to pass the time when we are hitting the treadmills. All the lounge TV's have cable hookup, and Loren noticed a TV port behind the desk, so..... :-)
