Out Ioway

My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of Heaven and earth,
He will not let your foot slip-
He who watches over you will not slumber.

Gifts and More Gifts

Ma would like to thank all the crew down Letourneau way for (picture 22 from top) this. The words say, "Your Inheritance." The pot seems empty, but I am considering giving it a brisk rubbing to see if a genie appears. It now rests in a treasured spot on my computer desk, nestled safely on a clever decorative mat that Melinda fashioned out of yarn. The gift comes about due to the fact that I have, on very rare occasions, made mention of "certain people" achieving or losing will status.

Will status is not exclusive to family members only, and provides me with interesting leverage in the constant ebb and flow of my threats to various acquaintances. This all started with my dad, who used to give out similar warnings on matters as paltry as whether or not we liked his freshly baked pies. ("Tell me they're delicious, or you're out of the will!")We children soon learned how to lavish praise, at least until after the pie was consumed. Any gifts in the area of schmoozing, I owe to my father.

My dear hubby gave me something I had secretly wished for, though I never dropped any hints. I can hardly wait to (picture at bottom of list) model it for some of my Libertarian "contacts." I'm even considering wearing it at a certain wedding we've been invited to. Paired with a red skirt, and a silk scarf, I think we could end up with something très chic.

Loren brought back a wireless keyboard, which I guess is his present to himself. It's main attractions are threefold: (for me) 1) It has a nice resistance in keyboard action, similar to playing a Steinway grand piano. I like that :-) 2) You can hold it on your lap, which cuts down on the carpal tunnel stress, and 3) You can mute those annoying commercials from an attitude of repose, instead of having to engage in athletic maneuvers that spoil the relaxation of a movie.

The children mostly got books, thanks to Ebay and half.com. I think they favored this Christmas over the one several years back in which they all got socks. Just socks. (see, the year be-FORE that terrible Christmas, we had had a lot of gifts sent to the family, so, I held back on ours, and wouldn't you know it, NOBODY sent any, and, I say this not to complain, but merely to explain that IT WASN'T MY FAULT!)

And while we're on the subject of gifts, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the many folks who have showered foodstuffs upon our family, namely, the children. I would also make a small plea that, perhaps no more eatables are needed, for quite a while! Things are stacked on counters and various places, and the possibility of not being able to use it all looms on the horizon. So, thanks to everyone, and now might be a good time to hold back for a while :-)

I cannot possibly mention all of the many wonderful ways that people have expressed their generosity. But we thank you, and we thank God for blessing us, through you.

I enjoyed your Christmas pictures. Loren looks great! His face looks a little more filled out and just... well, healthier. That flat-top is quite dapper, too. I'm glad you had a chance to be all together. More days behind you than ahead of you now. Before you know it you'll be back home.
Blessings,
Sharon the elder

I would be careful rubbing the LETU pot....who knows what kind of genie would appear...one with glasses,a calculater, who would outtalk you, hog your computer, and whine about the food he has been eating!
