Out Ioway

My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of Heaven and earth,
He will not let your foot slip-
He who watches over you will not slumber.

A Quiet Sunday

'Tis Sunday afternoon. The flurry of the morning has come and gone and Pavarotti is singing to me (personally) from my computer. I would have preferred Placido Domingo, but when you are rummaging through the CD bargain bin at Wal-Mart, greed takes precedence over selection.

It's about time to give a short update on Loren. I would have earlier, but things have fallen into a blissful state of uneventfullness. The first checkup back to Mayo should be in early March. I have no doubt we will be sent his orders, soon. They are very good about sending orders, not to mention those lovely notices itemizing the costs of procedures. (example: 1 stick of gum used for relaxation before surgery= $7.39 and thank you for choosing Mayo. Well, now, I could be wrong. The gum could've been more)

Of course I LOVE Mayo.

Loren has just been getting through each day in fine form, I think. Such a contrast from when he was up only 4 hours per day to now, about 12-14. He may not be moving all the time, but he seems a lot more normal, just in the way he can keep with a project. He can be working on someone's computer for hours at a time, going up and down the stairs to search for parts, etc. It is quite a change.

Before our walks on the road were curtailed by bad weather, we regularly walked 1.25 miles, and one day even went close to 2. Loren has a couple of parts ordered for the treadmill and will be fixing that soon. Treadmills are kinda boring, but a great alternative to 25 mile an hour winds :-) In the meantime, he has been known to "step-it" around the inside of the house, occasionally drawing an admiring, young imitator or two.

He faithfully takes his temp, blood pressure and weight each morning and evening, as he is required to do, marking it in his little book. It is just a matter of course, and he no longer gets concerned or obsessively checks them over and over. Not having the the uncertainty hanging over him has made a tremendous difference. Knowing you can get shocked at any time, regardless of activity can have a real dampening effect on one's outlook. It was always a toss up as to which was worse, getting shocked while still conscious and feeling everything, or waking up on the floor with people standing around, staring and concerned.

But, praise the Lord, that is over! From my standpoint, this is a new guy.
_______________

We had a bit of freezing rain this morning, but decided to venture out, as the temps seemed to be warming. I did make the executive decision that I would drive instead of Jason, which he was happy to acquiesce to. There's nothing like the chance to show the kids how an adult can maneuver in potentially difficult conditions. Yes, those were just about my exact thoughts as I slid through the first intersection of the gravel roads. But, I must say, it was a very controlled slide. Just another opportunity to show the kids "grace under pressure." ("I know we were supposed to turn there, I was just making a road test.......")

We survived. And since there is another service tonight, I'd better rest up. Us old people need our naps.
