Out Ioway

My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of Heaven and earth,
He will not let your foot slip-
He who watches over you will not slumber.

El Mayo Reporto, Part Uno

Having just gotten off the phone with Loren in the last hour, it is high time for an update.

In the interest of creative organization, we'll start with today and go backwards. I can remember things better that way.

Loren was told to report to St. Mary's Hospital for the yearly angiogram. At 6:00. As in morning. This necessitates getting up sometime be-fore 6. If you are planning to walk from the motel, because they won't let you drive after the anesthesia, you might get up at 5:00. If your internal alarm clock goes off earlier, you might awaken at 4:45.

So, imagining all this, and getting checked into your assigned hospital room, it is just SO lovely to be informed, "Oh, by the way, there is a conference going on, and....well.....(here's comes the really funny part).....we will not be starting the angiograms until 9:30. Thank you, and have a nice day."

*sound heard going down the hall* "Mwah, hah, hah, hah, hah!"

It would seem there was a communication interface systems failure. Or, in RealSpeak, someone forgot to tell something to someone else.

*sigh*

The heart biopsy will be performed at the same time as the angiogram. Should be going on right about.....*looks at watch*.....NOW....barring any unannounced checkers tournaments.

Originally, Loren had a break on Tuesday afternoon, when he was going to come back home, pick me up, and take me away from all the madness of homemaking to the madness of clinic life. That way, I could drive him back to Iowa right after his last appointment on Wednesday. (they don't let you drive until the day after an angiogram) But, in obvious disregard to my personal feelings and schedule, someone he was supposed to visit on Monday couldn't see him until late Tuesday, casting grave doubt on our previous itinerary feasibility studies.

*sigh*

So, Loren will wave off the effects of anesthesia, and hopefully stumble onto the correct shuttle to take him back to the clinic buildings for his final doctor appointments this afternoon. After that, he will take another shuttle back to his motel room, and, assuming he is delivered to the right motel, he will commune with his happy lappy-top until falling asleep at...oh....I'm guessing 8:30p.m.

Technically, he is not supposed to be alone after the procedure, since one possible complication is bleeding from the cath site. But, they told him he'd be all right if he kept his cell phone at his side.

It's probably good that I did not go. The last thing Loren needs is a wild woman running up and down the halls screaming, "But we got up before five in the morning!!"

There's not enough chocolate in the WORLD to compensate for all of that...
