Arte de Nolan
It is once again time to revisit that promising young artist, Nolan Joseph Hoyt.
Inspired by the return of his older sibling, this eight-year-old determined to immortalize his college bro with pencil and paper.
Right from the start we are struck by the detail of the headphones. Artists often play out secrets dreams via los drawingos and it seems clear that Nolan wants some headphones!"
And notice that the headphones have been pulled slightly back, exposing the ear. This not only denotes action on the part of the artist's subject, but is a thinly-veiled plea from the artist: "JASON...WILL YOU GIVE ME YOUR EARPHONES?"
The eye of the subject is not too shabby, either. It gives the observer the uncanny sensation that it is looking right at them...
We are also impressed by the state of the hair. Particularly since the latter looks better on paper than in real life.
Art critics call this the Retrograde Dali Effect.
Moving down towards the mouth one can finds the reverse 'C' cheek maneuver. This technique is often employed by cartoonists and can only be seen as the inevitable outcome from this artist's long hours spent poring over the works of Charles M. Schultz. (It should be noted here that the artist previously preferred Bill Watterson's work until said illustrations were made unavailable--quite suddenly--by his mother. Possibly for life)
Moving to the picture's background we can draw clues as to the subject's position in the room...Clearly a television is pictured. Again, it is not steeped in realism but rather a purposeful reference to media from the stone age period. (i.e. 'rabbit ear antenna') Nevertheless, this archaic symbol accurately places the subject, for he can ever be found parked on the sofa, avec laptop, next to the media center.
And now we come to the most meaningful part of this masterpiece.
In the truly great works of art more is conveyed than merely the craftsman's perception of how something looks.
Sophisticated pieces will include subtle references to the creator's hopes, wishes and even his or her philosophie de vie.
It is so with this object d'art.
Notice the hand coming in from right...we are told by the artist himself that this benevolent hand beareth ice cream.
And what is on the hand? A delicate bracelet, giving us conclusive proof that this hand is indeed a feminine hand.
Woman, serving man, with ice cream.
The age-old hierarchal triad with ice cream on the top, man in the middle, and woman on the bottom.
It's more of a straight line, actualement.
N'est-ce pas vrai ?
