It's a ZERO!! YAYYYY! Zero rejection biopsy!
Just got off the phone with Loren, who has filled me in on all the scoopish details of his first year's check-up.
Angiogram--shows just a little soft buildup, but nothing anyone is worried about. Apparently, it wasn't even compared to the base-line angiogram since it didn't show anything worrisome. So, that is good news. Also interesting....Loren was asked this morning (when they finally got around to the procedure) if he wanted anesthesia or not. And he chose "not." All they did was numb the insertion site. He has to stick around overnight to make sure that doesn't start bleeding. No angiogram needed for another year, but a regular heart biopsy to come in 3 months.
fluid build-up around heart--it is gone! There was a little after transplant because the heart he was given did not take up as much space as the enlarged one he'd had.
bone density--improving, but he will stay on Fosamax for the rest of his life.
cholesterol--it is up. Over 300. And it's not because he eats much junk, at all. The new anti-rejection medication, Sirolimus, (which took the place of Cyclosporine) has the effect of raising one's cholesterol. Therefore, Loren will be taken off Pravachol, a cholesterol drug which wasn't doing all that much, apparently, and started on Zetia.
(and now, if I have to link ONE MORE MED I think I will just go nuts....)
dermotology--no, Loren is not contemplating a face lift or Botox. All transplant patients have to be screened for skin cancer, since some of the drugs make them more sensitive to sunlight. They made an appointment for next week for a surgical consult, to check on some moles on his back. They may just remove them then and there. There was another prescription given for a face wash to deal with the breakouts caused by the Sirolimus. (no shortage of side effects from various medications) I won't give you that med, cause I didn't write it down, and besides, we do NOT want to see Ma go berserko trying to find another druggie link.
