I Would Like to Thank......
--the guys at the grocery store meat counter: for friendly service, for excellent meat products, and for so adequately representing their stock by looking so...... well...... beefy.
--the driver who was following my 15-year-old daughter as she slowed down, with blinker light on, preparing to turn left. You displayed real machismo by pulling around us, and turning left also, at the very same time. We will always remember your shiningly bad example of how not to drive. And, I will always remember that you drove a dark green pickup, with "McDowell and Sons" on the side. Being the nice person that I am, I shall only call you a "jerk."
--Michael Schiavo, for trying to voice what your wife had told you, but had somehow neglected to write down. From your actions I can also presume that she instructed you to carry on with another woman, fathering two children. Husbands like you are hard to come by. Thank GOD.
--the EMT's who did not stop defibrillating my husband, ten years ago, even though he did not respond in the usual length of time allotted for resuscitation.
--the neurologist who did Loren's initial brain scan and found "very little brain activity." Thanks, so much, for not being the only doctor involved.
--Dr. Congello, who, after seeing Loren begin to deteriorate, induced an artificial coma. It gave his body a chance to rest and regroup.
--God, for giving me back my husband.
That just about covers today, and the week of Feb. 27-Mar 5, 1995.
I'll try and get to the intervening years, sometime.
